OTTAWA’S MOST TRUSTED APPLIANCE REPAIR COMPANY
OTTAWA NORDFIX APPLIANCE REPAIR – FAQS
Our pricing always starts with a diagnostic inspection, which is $50. This fee allows us to properly check the appliance, identify the exact cause of the problem, and give you a clear and honest assessment of the situation.
The important part is that the diagnostic fee is included in the repair. In other words, if you decide to proceed with the repair, that $50 simply becomes part of the total cost.
After the diagnosis, we will clearly explain what is wrong with the appliance and what options you have. Sometimes the repair is simple and inexpensive. In other cases, especially with very old appliances, it may make more sense financially to replace the unit rather than repair it. Our goal is always to give you an honest recommendation, not to push you into unnecessary repairs.
We believe in fair and transparent pricing. All replacement parts come from reliable suppliers, and we provide a 90-day warranty on parts and labour used in the repair. This ensures that the repair is done properly and that you have peace of mind afterward.
Unfortunately, in the appliance repair industry it’s not uncommon for companies to charge extremely high markups on parts or push customers into expensive repairs that are not always necessary. We believe this approach damages trust and long-term relationships with customers.
Our goal is different. We focus on building a strong reputation in our local community by providing honest diagnostics, reasonable pricing, and quality repairs. We want customers to feel confident calling us again or recommending our service to friends and family.
Once we diagnose the issue, you will always know exactly what the problem is, what the repair will cost, and whether it’s worth fixing or replacing the appliance. The final decision is always yours.
If you would like, we can schedule a visit and take a look at the appliance.
This is a very common question, and the answer depends on the age and overall condition of the appliance.
If the dryer is very old and in poor technical condition, sometimes replacing it may be the better option. When an appliance has multiple worn components, fixing one problem today may not prevent another issue from appearing later.
However, it is important to understand that older appliances are not always worse than new ones. In fact, many older dryers were built with simpler and more durable mechanical systems. A lot of modern appliances today are manufactured overseas, and in many cases the overall build quality is not as strong as older models that were designed under stricter North American standards.
In my experience as a technician, I often see situations where brand-new appliances break down within the first few months of use, while older machines continue to run reliably for many years. I have personally serviced dryers that are 10–15 years old and still working very well after a simple repair.
Another factor people sometimes overlook is the true cost of replacement. Buying a new dryer is not only the purchase price. You also need to consider:
delivery fees
installation or moving costs
possible vent adjustments
disposal of the old appliance
Once everything is included, replacing a dryer can easily cost significantly more than the original price of the unit.
Because of this, I usually do not recommend replacing an older, inexpensive dryer with another low-quality model that is only slightly better. In many cases, that simply increases your expenses without providing a real improvement in reliability.
If a replacement truly makes sense, it is usually better to invest in a higher-quality appliance, rather than switching from one budget machine to another.
Our approach is always simple:
after the diagnostic inspection, we explain the technical condition of the appliance, the repair cost, and whether the repair makes financial sense. From there, you can decide what is the best option for your situation.
In most cases we offer same-day or next-day service in Ottawa. Many repairs are completed during the first visit.

Yes. We also provide dryer vent cleaning and range hood cleaning to improve airflow and safety.
One of the most common reasons is a clogged dryer vent. When lint builds up inside the vent or exhaust duct, airflow becomes restricted and the dryer cannot remove moisture efficiently.
We often see dryers running two or even three cycles just to dry a normal load. In many cases, the heating element is working perfectly — the problem is simply poor airflow.
A blocked vent can also become a fire hazard if lint accumulates over time.
We recommend cleaning the dryer vent at least once a year to keep your dryer running efficiently and safely.
In many cases the issue is dirty condenser coils. Over time dust, pet hair, and debris collect on the coils behind or underneath the refrigerator.
When the coils are dirty, the refrigerator cannot release heat properly, forcing the compressor to work harder. This often leads to:
• poor cooling
• constant running
• higher electricity bills
Regular cleaning of the condenser coils can improve cooling performance and extend the life of your refrigerator.
A common cause is detergent and moisture buildup inside the drum and rubber door gasket. Over time this creates a perfect environment for mold and bacteria.
Front-load washers are especially prone to this issue if the door stays closed after washing.
We recommend:
• leaving the washer door slightly open after use
• cleaning the rubber gasket regularly
• running a cleaning cycle with washer cleaner or vinegar
These simple steps help prevent odors and keep your washing machine fresh.
